Im looking at purchasing a case or two of 5.56 and found the following designations listed: XM193BK, XM193AF, XM193C, XM193CBP.

These are on boxes of LC and Eagle/Federal LC. Is there a difference in the ammo, or is this more related to lot identification?

Without actually seeing the boxes, I'd say they were lot numbers, or ammo possibly loaded by subcontractors.

I'll check our local stores and report back.

Maybe for various contracts? CBP - customs and border protection, etc?

I spent sometime researching it after I posted... maybe I should have done that before... oh, well. At least it gives me a chance to say what I found for others who may have the same question...

According to what I have seen, the are not related to batch, instead they denote the packaging style.

A or AF - on stripper clips
C - Commercial
BK - loose Bulk
CBP - commercial bulk packageing

Apparently it is the "same" as the US military uses, but it may or may not have the NATO circle cross. But from what I've seen... It shoots identically.

Well, if it's all the same price I'd go for the stripper clip version...

Hmm 3.6 cents/round extra for the strippers....If it includes bandoleers and spoons its a pretty good deal.

The other thing to look for in buying Federal ammunition is LCAAP (Lake City Army Ammunition Plant) - better odds of getting mil type tar sealed and crimped primer .....
